After a disaster, cell phones may not be working.
In an effort to test disaster communications, CERT groups from around Contra Costa County and the Contra Costa Office of Emergency Services will be holding a simultaneous radio drill simulating the events of a 7.1 magnitude earthquake.
At 9 a.m., participants will receive a drill notification via the county’s Community Warning System that the “earthquake” has hit. CERTs will muster at their designated command posts and begin relaying via radio messages to Richmond’s Emergency Operations Center notifying the city of emergency scenarios that have occurred in their area.
Point Richmond’s post will be Carroll Park. All CERT-trained residents are encouraged to participate. If you are not CERT trained but would like to spectate, please come to watch.
If you are CERT trained and would like to participate, please contact us via our “contact” page on this website.
