PR CERT: California Wildfires and The Point

DUE TO INTEREST IN THIS TOPIC, PLEASE RSVP THROUGH THIS WEBSITE. SEATING CAPACITY IS LIMITED.

Each month, Point Richmond's CERT team meetings aim to educate Richmond residents on emergency preparedness tailored specifically to the needs and challenges of Point Richmond. We encourage all Point Richmond residents to attend to learn how to safeguard their homes and families from natural disasters and to become part of Point Richmond's emergency response team.

The recent fires in Santa Rosa brought great focus on the potential threat to dense suburban areas posed by wildfires. Once considered unthinkable, this disaster points out the need for residents in suburban (and even urban) areas with surrounding wildlands to be prepared for and take mitigation steps to prevent a similar tragedy happening in Point Richmond.

November's meeting features Genevieve Pastor-Cohen, City of Richmond's Emergency Services Manager. As lead of a Bay Area Office of Emergency Services, Genevieve was involved with the response up to the devastating Santa Rosa fires. She will speak to the overall disaster response during this disaster, the need and challenges of spontaneous volunteers (and the importance for CERT training for those volunteers), sheltering, and recovery.

PLEASE NOTE: Our location venue has changed from previous meetings. We will now be at the Point Richmond Community Center in the town-square area.
